Азотсодержащие органические соединения, преимущественно растительного происхождения, обладающие свойствами оснований; многие алкалоиды – сильнейшие яды; применяются в медицине как ценные лекарственные препараты.
Производные лизергиновой кислоты; широко применяются в медицине. Получают путём заражения ржи возбудителем спорыньи грибом Claviceps purpurea. С экономической точки зрения вызывает интерес глубинная культура – штаммы Claviceps paspali.
